Attorney in Greeley, Colorado: Felonies

Experienced Representation When You are Charged with a Felony Offense

The penalties for conviction on a felony offense in Colorado can be severe and the consequences can significantly impact your rights. Colorado also has a "two felony rule," which prohibits probation without district attorney approval if you have been convicted of two or more felonies. When you have been charged with a felony offense in Colorado, you need a lawyer who understands how the DA's office operates.

At the McAdams Law Office LLC, in Greeley, we represent individuals throughout Weld County, Larimer County and Morgan County who have been charged with a felony offense. With experience in the Weld County district attorney's office, we know how criminal cases are prepared and can identify weaknesses in the prosecutor's case. Contact our offices to set up a free initial consultation.

Felony Defense

In our criminal defense practice, we handle a wide range of felony offenses, including

  • felony assault, including 2nd degree assault

  • felony menacing

  • eluding a police officer

  • felony theft (greater than $1000)

  • felony criminal mischief (greater than $1000)

  • felony trespass

  • felony aggravated DARP (Driving After Revocation Prohibited)
    • you may only be charged with this if you are considered an HTO (Habitual Traffic Offender)
  • DUI or DWAI

Violent Felonies

For felonies that include violence, including second degree assault, the minimum sentence is five years. Furthermore, if you are convicted of a felony offense, you may be prevented from owning a firearm, from voting, from serving on a jury and from entering the military. You will also face a minimum of one year of parole after any time served for a felony conviction.

Because of our experience on the prosecution side of criminal cases, we have an intimate understanding of when it's in your best interests to seek a plea and when you should take your defense to trial. Often, we will ask the prosecution for deferred judgment. This allows you to plead guilty, but the plea is suspended during a specific period of time, generally one to four years. The prosecution will place certain conditions on the suspension and, if you meet those conditions, the plea may be withdrawn and the charge dismissed. In the interim, you won't be hampered by a conviction when you try to look for a job or find a place to live.
